ECNL contributes to development of EU Country Roadmaps 01/08/2014

In June 2014, more than 40 EU staff from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific met in Brussels last month to exchange ideas on how best to prepare their first \"EU Country Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society\", due by the end of July 2014. The Executive Director of ECNL delivered a session about the enabling environment which is a key component of the roadmaps, and in an interview highlighted key aspects of enabling environment and main challenges.

Shrinking space for civil society – Addressing the implementation gap, CSI Side Event, 12 June 20/06/2014

Internationally guaranteed protections for fundamental rights are clearly not understood by some States and not translated into safeguards for civil society nationally.
Civic Space Initiative, including ECNL, organized a side event to identify how States must address the “implementation gap” between international standards and domestic law and practice, in particular for marginalized groups.

EU Council confirms human rights based approach in development cooperation 05/06/2014

On May 19, the EU Council adopted conclusions on a rights-based approach to development cooperation. This approach aims at promoting all human rights, be they civil or political, also through development cooperation and sees them as a means to and a goal of effective development cooperation. The fulfillment of human rights is to become an integral part of the identification, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all EU development policies and projects.

Presentation of First Report of Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Environment 04/06/2014

On May 27, ECNL and BCSDN presented the regional report under the Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development, in Brussels. The report contains key findings generated from the country reports which monitored the legal framework and practical implementation of the policies and laws under the Matrix. The Report also puts forward specific recommendations about actions around the key priorities in the region, as well as concrete recommendations for EU support.

Interview with ECNL’s Executive Director for Urduga.hr 04/06/2014

Udruga.hr, a leading Croatian newspaper for NGOs has recently made an interview with ECNL’s Executive Director, Ms Hadzi-Miceva Evans to discuss European trends in the legal framework for civil society and recent changes of the legislation affecting CSOs in Croatia.
